Turquoise

Who doesn't like turquoise?  The name turquoise comes from the old French word "turkish".  It is believed turquoise got its' name because the mineral was brought to Europe from this region of Asia. Turquoise is formed by water acting on aluminum and copper, which gives the stone its blue colouration.  Shades of green turquoise are formed from iron impurities.  Turquoise is actually soft and requires stabilization or it will stain or break.  It has a wonderful waxy to viterous luster. Mookaite

  This stunning quartz Jasper comes from one source, in Northwest Australia.   It has warm earthy tones found in Aborigines art.  Mookaite has distinctive yellow and dark red marbling in flowing areas of colour.   Mookaite is a sedimentary rock formed from tiny creatures deposited in an ancient sea, now known as MookaCreek.  Mookaite, is also referred to as Mooka. Carnelian

  Carnelian is a chalcedony group of quartz.   The most favorable pieces are a deep red to red-orange hue.  Carnelian has a long storied past, and was once considered strictly the property of the noble class.
