Amethyst

Amethyst with its' stunning purple color, has been a favored gem by royalty throughout time.  This form of quartz can range from a light hue of lilac to deep intense crystal clusters of pure purple. Amethyst is a quartz colored by iron, its' luster is vitreous in nature.  As with most quartz it is relatively hard at 7 on the "mohs" scale of hardness.  This means it is durable and resists staining and scratches.
